12' Blade Carving

A few new cedar boards. I bought them early so they would have a chance to dry out before mid winter.

The blades are cut to the rough size.

I find it to be the quickest to do almost all the carving by hand. Power tools do seem to be slower. I remove bigger bits of wood by hand, and I am more accurate too. The blade is hidden inside the wood. You only need to remove the extraneous bits.

Twist and taper are carved into the blade.

Snapped two lines to aid in the shaping of the airfoil.

There is that familiar shape we learned about in high school. The shape is maintained throughout the blade.

Pressure curve.

Blades finished and a coat of linseed oil applied. I have tried other finishes but I like the simplicity of linseed.
